Sports Injury Treatment in Bromley
Sports Injury Recovery & Prevention
Every athlete knows that split-second feeling when something goes wrong – a sudden twist, an awkward landing, or an unexpected collision. Whether you’re a weekend warrior, a professional athlete, or a high school star player, sports injuries can sideline you from the activities you love. At Church Road Chiropractic, we understand the unique challenges athletes face and provide specialised care to get you back in the game safely and effectively.
Sports injuries come in many forms, from acute trauma to gradual onset conditions. The most common injuries we treat include sprains and strains, shoulder injuries, knee problems, tennis elbow, sports-related back pain, and even whiplash and concussions. But it’s not just about treating the injury – it’s about understanding how it happened and preventing it from recurring.
Athletic performance relies on your body working and your nervous system communicating like a finely tuned machine. When one part isn’t functioning correctly, it affects your entire performance and increases your risk of injury. That’s where chiropractic care can make all the difference.

The Athletic Advantage of Chiropractic Care
What sets chiropractic care apart in treating sports injuries is our focus on the entire musculoskeletal system, and how it affects the nervous system. We don’t just treat the symptoms – we identify and correct the underlying biomechanical issues that may have contributed to your injury. This comprehensive approach helps prevent future injuries while optimising your performance.
Many professional sports teams now include chiropractors as essential members of their medical staff, recognizing the vital role we play in both injury treatment and prevention. From improved flexibility and strength to better balance and coordination, the benefits of chiropractic care for athletes are well-documented.
Our Sports Injury Treatment Approach
At Church Road Chiropractic, we begin with a thorough evaluation of your injury and movement patterns. This allows us to understand not just where it hurts, but why the injury occurred. An injured knee could be the result of how you compensated for a misaligned pelvis, for example. A subluxation in the upper neck can affect your reflexes and reaction time.
We use precise chiropractic adjustments of the spine to restore proper movement and nerve flow reducing pain and promoting healing. We can also check and adjust extremities, such as shoulders, knees, and ankles.
We may recommend soft tissue techniques to help address muscle tension, with specific rehabilitation exercises to strengthen supporting muscles and improve flexibility. Throughout your care, we’ll also focus on correcting any movement patterns that might have contributed to your injury.
Getting You Back in the Game
Recovery timelines vary depending on the injury and your sport’s demands. Your first phase of care will be to reduce discomfort and improve function, so you can get back to your activity safely and better than before. We work closely with you to establish realistic recovery goals and provide clear guidance on when it’s safe to return to play.
Many of our patients find they perform better after completing their care plan because we’ve addressed underlying issues they didn’t even know were holding them back. From an increased range of motion to improved stability and strength, the benefits often extend beyond just healing the initial injury.
The second phase of care includes maintenance and proactive check-ups. Studies show that when your nervous system is firing on all cylinders, your performance, balance, and coordination improve. This is helpful in preventing injuries from occurring.
A 2012 article in the Journal of Manipulative Physiol Therapy showed an increase in grip strength in judo athletes, as well as enhanced biomechanics, decreased injury rates, and accelerated recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens at the first consultation?
The first appointment consists of a case history which involves asking you questions about your medical history, lifestyle, and the symptoms you are currently experiencing.
What is chiropractic?
Ideally, we like to be able to see the area we are treating and the surrounding tissues so that we can deliver an effective and safe treatment. In most cases, if we are treating the upper back in women a strappy vest top or sports bra will allow us to treat effectively. If treating the lower half of the body, exercise shorts can be worn. If you do not want to undress, then talk to the osteopath and we can work around the issue. Your modesty will always be respected.
Does treatment hurt?
Occasionally, you may find some techniques uncomfortable, but we will always ask for feedback during treatment and will work within your comfort zone. After your treatment you may experience soreness or tenderness in the area that was treated, however this usually subsides within 24-48 hours. If you are concerned after your treatment, please call the clinic and we can offer more advice.

I have been visiting Gopal for some time now & honestly it really has changed my whole body posture ! My initial visit was due to lower back pain & stiffness, along with wanting to get control of the issue, before I tried for a baby without having to worry that I would be in pain during my pregnancy, all which I explained to Gopal. Following some of my first visits I was involved in a car accident, which didn’t help the back pain, but quite quickly Gopal worked his magic & fixed the issues I was having & it meant visits only needed to be as & when I felt I needed adjustments. During my pregnancy, I only needed to visit Gopal once & during the visit he was able to tell me issues he could feel my body was having without me even telling him ! I honestly cannot recommend Gopal enough & I have recommended him to friends & family !! The shop is also easy to find & appointments can be booked quickly compared to other chriopractors who have long wait times. Thank you again Gopal !
